WIP – Urban Fantasy

Between books in Forged in Flame and Fury, I sometimes return to an urban fantasy project—something sharper, darker, and closer to the present. It’s not my primary focus, but it’s a story that refuses to let go.

Main idea

She was the vampire prince’s most loyal guard—and his forbidden lover—until the night she was framed for his assassination. Banished to the human world, she has survived centuries in the shadows: bitter, unbroken, and waiting for justice.

When a stranger crosses her path carrying the scent of truth, her exile fractures. Immortal and betrayed, she steps back into a world that tried to erase her. To clear her name, she will tear through every realm—one blood-soaked secret at a time.

Chapter 1

I will bathe in their blood.

They paraded her in rags before the Conclave, iron bars searing her flesh, the smell almost making her gag. Every ruler and noble from the seven realms watching. Whispers hissed like vipers through the cavernous stone chamber. She refused to flinch. Refused to cover herself.

They arrest me with my tits out—they get my tits.

Quills scratched. Scribes recorded every twitch of her restraint.

Leeches.

Not one word of truth in those scrolls.

The judge’s voice cut through it all.

“Marianna Varengar. Accused of attempted assassination of Prince Lucian Draegor, and conspiracy with Kael Varos, Alpha of the Beast Court, to overthrow the Veil Throne.”

Everyone stilled.

“Guilty.”

The word echoed in her head. She locked every muscle in place.

She would not give them the satisfaction of a reaction.

The gavel struck. His jowls quivered, wig slipping sideways. “Order! Order, I say!”

Fae guards threw a silencing hex, effectively shutting everyone up.

She could swear she heard the trickster gods laugh.

“Sentence: five hundred years exile in the mortal realm. America. No pardon.”

She groaned internally. America? Land of slaves and patriots? Just behead and burn me and be done with it.

She met Lucian’s eyes. He looked devastated, broken. The pretty face she’d had between her thighs not three days ago, now scrunched with tears. She clung to that look like a lifeline. Surely he would fix this.

She could feel a tooth crack, grinding her teeth.

The crowd leaned forward. But when her gaze raked them, one by one, every eye dropped away. Her fury burned too bright.

Fuck them all.

Chapter two

257 years, five months, six days and seven hours later.

But who’s counting?
